No place like home: a move that inspired a brighter career

Oli Ronan had enjoyed a successful 12 years as a quantity surveyor in London when he realised the Big Smoke no longer served his wellbeing or his young family. At a time that saw the entrepreneur face some fast-changing priorities in his life, his definition of success soon meant much more than financial security. The pull of the city became less attractive as he noticed that he was operating in a negative and stressful environment. This, on top of a mountain biking accident which could have ended badly, gave Oli the wakeup call he needed - something had to change. And with Oli’s wife Claire being Cornish, there was only one place where the pair felt they could not only raise their daughter, but embed themselves in a community that would allow their careers to flourish.

“What’s made life as franchisees all the more rewarding is never feeling like we started from square one,” added Claire. “We’ve chosen the perfect franchise to hone skills we developed in previous careers – the only difference is we’re operating in a genuinely supportive and invested network! Being able to seamlessly transfer skills in customer service and administration has allowed me to continue being a full-time mum without missing a beat.”

Founded in 1996, MWC introduced the UK to the future of the cleaning industry. The ORIGINAL and TOP-PERFORMING window cleaning franchise, MWC has established itself as an exciting, highly profitable opportunity through identifying and leveraging a gap in the market. Offering customers, a trustworthy, sophisticated window cleaning, gutter clearance and pressure washing service, MWC is a true family-feel franchise with good old-fashioned values at its heart.

“Life as franchisees has exceeded all of our expectations,” added Claire. “I didn’t think about the support initially – it was just about the business – but that’s only because neither of us had ever experienced it before. Since we’ve launched, it’s been amazing to have developed a close bond with the franchisor who can never do enough for us. They’re not just a franchisor, they’re mentors who encourage you to tap into their expertise and experience. It’s equally inspiring to see them feel rewarded by the time and care they invest in us as people – they know us on a personal level and therefore know how to get the best out of us.

“It’s this dynamic that encourages us to capitalise on the opportunities they give us, both on an operational level and in terms of professional development. In the last year alone, we’ve joined the franchise network’s newly launched Elite Mindset Group and signed up to an MWC-tailored six-month business development programme from internationally renowned business coach, Tony Robbins – all for free!”

Today, a network of 25 franchisees operates across the UK. Sophisticated branding, systems, operations and processes have established MWC as the LEADING voice in a saturated market, which has seen the franchise receive over 4,500 gleaming 5-star reviews from happy customers. With each franchise territory outfitted with the industry’s best equipment and with full access to MWC’s bespoke online management software, ‘Gloria’, franchisees are empowered with the tools, confidence and skills to build a profitable business, fast.

“As a pair, we’re much more business management and administration-focused, so launching an independent business would have been a step too far,” explained Oli. “But I knew that I wanted to be outdoors and living a comfortable life – I get so much pleasure out of working. The most amazing thing for me – the difference – is the flexibility. I have the flexibility to do the drop-offs for our daughter at nursery, and I can sit down and have dinner with my family. It’s small things, but it makes such a huge difference. I was a weekend dad, but now I’m a huge part of her life and daily routine.”

MWC attracts both first-time franchisees and seasoned entrepreneurs, thanks to its impressive infrastructure and ground-breaking technology. Franchisees are encouraged to fully exploit the success they can achieve within their territories by building a team of passionate and enthusiastic operatives. And through recurring income and multiple revenue streams, low overheads, an impressive scope for growth and ongoing development, the opportunity for franchisees is huge.

Oli and Claire have built a healthy, sustainable and incredibly successful business together in Cornwall – made better by the lifestyle they are afforded having moved away from the hustle and bustle of corporate life. And with a full-time member of staff already supporting their growth and ambitions in the early stages of their franchise journey, the only way for MWC Newquay and Truro is up. With eyes on the prize for themselves, their daughter and the community, Oli and Claire are now in a financial position and have a lifestyle that has enabled them to undertake and pass the requirements for fostering children, further supporting those around them and affirming their mission to be pillars of their community.

“In such a short space of time, we’re already starting to benefit from the lifestyle we’re afforded as franchisees. We don’t have the pressure of corporate jobs, we have complete flexibility and it has fully transformed our home life. I get huge kicks out of seeing the immediate results of what we’re doing with MWC – we’re building an incredibly happy team, business and customer base. Over the next few years, that will continue, thanks to the success that’s laid out for franchisees from day one,” concluded Oli.
